Why was Mary Magdalene, Jesus’ closest companion, symbolically crucified? In one dramatic act of condemnation Mary was severed from the axis of Christianity. Mary, the proclaimed Apostle of the Apostle was now branded as not only undesirable, but dangerous. At the crucifixion of Christ, while all the disciples scattered in fear, Mary stayed by his side.
