THE DAY OF TROUBLE by Helen A.S.

A Heart Attack. Open-Heart Surgery. A Stroke. In One Month. How God Saw Me Through To Recovery

The day of trouble

It was a cough, a normal cough like any other, or was it not? Why had it not let up after two weeks then? And why was her heart racing like it was? Well, she had had heart palpitations before. These had eased up after sometime. Tonight was different. Her heartbeat was gaining in intensity and beating faster and faster with the hour. But now, she suddenly had difficulty breathing. To add to that, she just couldn't lie back flat on her bed! What was wrong with her?

Forty-five years old, slim and lean, Helen had no pre-existing health conditions. So why was she feeling the way she was? Scared, and needing answers as to why her heart wouldn't quiet down, she drives to the emergency room for what she thinks to be a normal check-up. But there is nothing normal about this night. She had no idea that her life was just about to change forever, and that it would only take her trust in God to survive what was coming her way.

Unknown to her, she had been living with symptoms of heart failure and was very, very sick. The doctors had been shocked that she had even stayed away that long. They said she had had a heart attack. She was not aware of having had a heart attack. Were heart attacks not supposed to be loud, dramatic, with one gasping for air as one fell down?

Bewildered, shocked, scared, afraid, anxious, uncertain of what is to become of her, Helen knows that there is One who is mightier than her circumstances. One who can turn her situation around. One who can either stop it with just one word or carry her through it and bring her out safely. So with a song in her spirit, a dance in her step, and the word of God on her lips she turns to God in love, and in utter abandonment to His Will, she surrenders to the manifold wisdom of God. She knows that He knows. And because He knows, she is persuaded, convinced, that it shall be well with her. She dares to believe Him, to trust Him. So she rests and finds peace in God, in her darkest hour.

A heart-attack. An open-heart surgery. A stroke. In one month.

Filled with beautiful, poetic, and extravagant descriptions of the seasons of time as experienced in her hour of need, and laced with a rich insight into the German culture, The Day of Trouble is a personal journey, an intimate account of Helen's story from living with symptoms of heart failure, to diagnosis, to rehabilitation and recovery, to living a normal life despite heart disease.
