Have you ever wondered what it would be like to survive on an island? If you look on a map of the Indian Ocean, you'll see the Bay of Bengal. If you look closely, you'll see an island called Ramree off the coast of Myanmar (Burma). On Ramree Island many years ago, there lived a boy named Ko Ko. He lived in a little bamboo house with his family.
A Little Boy on Ramree Island is similar to the Laura Ingalls Wilder books: it's based on the true story of the author's life, has illustrations, and can be enjoyed by all ages. The story shows what life was like on Ramree Island in the 1980s and will educate both older children and young adults on what is it like to grow up in Asian culture and how to survive on an island without modern conveniences such as cars, motorbikes, large stores, or electricity. No electricity means no TVs, no lights, no fans, no A/C, no washers, no dryers, no stoves or ovens, no hotplates, and no refrigerators!
