Maverick DCI John Blizzard returns!
John Dean does it again! Here’s a new much awaited addition to his brilliant crime series featuring DCI John Blizzard, set in the fictional city of Hafton – which everyone suspects is somewhere in the north east of England where more often than not it’s November and foggy and that’s how we like our mysteries…
If you haven’t come across Detective John Blizzard, you must get to know this man!
In The Name on the Bullet, the eleventh standalone in the series, a famous cop gets killed. He had participated in a reality show. Maybe he was vain and too ready to become a media darling for his own ego, but is that what led to his demise? The case is big enough for the British secret services to be involved, and DCI John Blizzard doesn’t like that one bit. He knows his patch better than anyone else and here, again, he will have to prove he can get the culprit before anyone else!
You can’t help but marvel at Blizzard the maverick: he remained unfazed when coming up against the boogeyman in the last but one in the series. The Vengeance Man, a black-clad figure who comes out in the dark to kill, had a whole town on its knees in fear, but not Blizzard. Before then, he kept his cool when handling an overexcited local community going vigilante in No Age to Die.
And the list goes on. Blizzard has no time for criminals, but neither does he put up with anyone taking shortcuts to justice, or eager to point the finger and easily triggered into hateful frenzies. He always seems to have a fight against the world on his hands whilst figuring out who murdered whom! In each of those gems of crime mysteries, Blizzard follows his own nose, makes his own sense of justice count when it matters, and takes on the baddies – but when they are wrong he does not spare the self-righteous, the powers that be, or entire communities that have been whipped up into collective hysteria.
And here he works his magic again. The Name on the Bullet does not disappoint and we can only say: may this long series continue!

After a policeman is shot dead, DCI John Blizzard seizes a chance to settle old scores
When a high-profile detective on a reality TV cop show is killed, John Blizzard fancies old-school gangster Nathaniel Callaghan for the crime.
With the aging boss’s control over his northern crime empire on the wane, Blizzard sees an opportunity to turn his associates against him. But MI5 are also in on the action, and the different departments are in danger of scuppering each other’s investigation.
Yet as skeletons clatter out of the closet, it dawns on Blizzard that things are not as clear cut as they seem.
Who had murder on their mind, and who wrote the name on the bullet?
THE NAME ON THE BULLET is the eleventh standalone murder mystery by John Dean to feature stalwart crime-solver DCI John Blizzard.
