Why do we love Diane M Dickson? Well, the best way to sum up her style is to say this – she is a natural-born storyteller. This seasoned author has been writing books for some years and has a vast array of publications you can check out. For me, what stands out is an ability to build suspense with immaculate timing. I remember reading Pictures of You and being impressed with how Diane could really portray rising fear and threat so effectively. I would also give her books ten out of ten for readability. A great easy writing style.
So let’s look at Body on the Shore, the first instalment of this outstanding crime series. Almost immediately we are introduced to the star of the show DI Jordan Carr. He is called to a grisly scene down on Crosby Beach. A dead body wrapped in plastic has become entangled with one of the cast-iron statues famously installed in the sand along the waterfront. This chilling opening scenario grips the reader’s attention straight away. Already we are there on the beach, in the cold and wet environment – with DI Carr who knows he may have his work cut out.
