Emma embarks on a path that is imposed, but eventually finds she was meant to be the hero of the Gem Keepers, her people, who will unite and fight. The story is full of emotions and sets up the relationships in the before and after of an alien invasion, how they change, how we are shaped by them, how they can give us strength or destroy us, and how wrong it is to take anything for granted.
